1. The Year Of Wonders
based on FLEMING
BARRAS (1645 - ????) - A brilliant but unknown contemporary
of Sir Isaac Newton.
He inherited his ancestor Margaret Mongomery's
possessions..including
her diary..and disappeared
mysteriously in a very similar
way to his ancestor!
* Tidied up & added in a subtle? hint of original Margaret
Montgomery theme19/06
* Added lots of odd percussion stuff that Leon and I
did at the weekend plus the new Album Superior Drummer Drum kit 05/07
* Tidied again and placed Leons percussion better ...also chopped out one of
the
fast syncopated riffs at end (because we've done it to death!) 10/07
* Following some suggestions by our 'external' review team - Organ in V1/2 lowered
alittle, Harpsi lowered, BVs boosted, Clash between last Sax solos and Violin
removed,
Grand
piano solo
more
reverb
and a little
phaser 11/07
2. Revelation Road
based on JORGEN
BARRAS (1834 - 1900)-
this character is a travelling revivallist preacher man who
comes to town, 'prays' in order to control the weather and leaves with
the farmers hard earned money.
* Added tambourine & hand claps etc
stuff that Leon and I
did at the weekend plus the new Album Superior Drummer Drum kit 05/07
* I finally got round to thinking about the intro to this which I always felt
was CRAP *(just a drum beat...so I have put an acappella choir blues bit
on
the front to get us in) - See what you think! 09/07
* The added vocal will also address the confusion
in the lyric! (above)
Following some suggestions by our 'external' review team - More hand claps
and tamb in "funky clav" section plus I added in a small reprise
of the gospel opeing
under the scat singing section at the end 11/07
based on AMY QUARTERMAINE (1862
- 1916)
(Based
on real life Nurse Edith Cavell who nursed ally and foe alike in WWI Belgium
plus helped english soldiers to escape before being executed
by the Germans in 1916).
a) Before the War
b) Abroad
c ) Outbreak
d) Within the War
e) After the War
* Added more of IAN fiddle work 16/06
* Added some of MAREK's Sax parts 16/06
* KRIS last bass part (hopefully) plus CHRIS did some more lead/rhythm parts
yesterday
27/06
* Re-done VOX at start - added new harmonies throughout (as Kris wanted) and
put
in
the
last of LEONS PERC plsu new drum kit (this is tricky on this one as levels
are
changing)
06/07
* More vocals added and mixed in hopefully better now polsud double riff after
Orchestral war section (Outbreak) and before Within the
War
section removed (as redundant)
10/07
* Following some suggestions by our 'external' review team....some tidying up!
based on HARRIET
HORDEN (1912 - 1955) - Harriet was a
jazz singer at the Savoy in New York at the time of the US Great Depression
The song tries to highlight the contrast between what is happening inside the
club at night (where the rich go to forget) and the realities of the
hard
times outside.
* With new improved JK enhanced Drum parts, plus using
the vintage JAZZ Drum kit with brushes then sticks
* Added MAREK's final parts the Sax (Horn Section) to make the Brass sound
more
real
- nice too 24/06
* Tidied more and added extra Vox parts to last acapella-ish chorus PLUS Special
Guest PHIDEAUX
is in there as MC at the Savoy! 06/07
* Following some suggestions by our 'external' review team...first note of Kevs
solo reduced a little in level, plus BVs up more
based on JAMES
FAIRFAX (1922
- 1945) - an unremarkable invisible man,
never achieving much or wanting to be noticed in his daily life.
But all this changed when he got called up to service in WWII
Realising
that he had done nothing within his life and would not be remembered, he set
off to trace his roots and find the home of his ancestors (Margaret's Cottage
by the tarn)
* More tidying up of GTRS and SAXES...length of the classical gtr solo at end
cut
to make way for displaced saxes - plus amended end spoken bit to remove
reference
to NO
MANS
LAND (thanks to Tim) 10/07
based on
AMELIA FAIRFAX (1926
- 2010) - a young Mata Hari
type agent working for the O.S.S (forerunner of the C.I.A.) in Cairo
during WWII
* Added MAREK'S lovely sax parts to this (Lead and rhythm saxes)
* Added Steve's FLUTE 18/06
* Added in Leons Percussion work and beefed
up Organ in first half plus added in the New Drum kit 06/07
* Added some SANTUR (as per Tims request) - let me know what you think
plus resang opening verses and added extra low tones to the OOOOHs
e.g .."OOOOH she worked her magic..."
7. The Southern Waves
based
on DAVID LOGAN (1967
- 2022) - the father of Dr. ADAM LOGIN
from "Anser's Tree" and a fisherman by trade.
This is a contemporary ecological piece as it concerns itself with the recent
(2010)
floods
and tidal changes in our Southern Hemsiphere
(specifically Australia, South Afirica, South America & Japan)
* Added lots of odd percussion stuff and some fab timbales at end that Leon
and I
did at the weekend plus the new Album Superior Drummer Drum kit 05/07
* Added a soft orch. rhthym in the 2nd build up section (as per Tims suggestion)
also added in the TIMPS as Kris wanted too, plus the Wave/Thunder FX reprise
at the
end 09/07
